As a kid, who didn't love building forts? My siblings and I would always make forts on Sunday after church and play in them all day. Grab all the chairs we could get a hold of, collect the blankets through out the house, and pile all the pillows we could. And soon we would have ourselves a really sweet fort.
.
What was really great was when our dad would play with us, he could always help us build a great fort. His always seemed to be able to stay up, the blankets would hold their place, and chairs would never seem to fall down.
.
So, for this Family Moment Monday what might be a fun activity for the family is to make a giant fort in the family room. Make some treats, get a game, find a good movie, and spend your evening in the fort. Take every blanket that you can find, pin them up, duct tape them in you have too, but turn a room.... into a fort. Let the whole family get under it, cuddle and lay around with pillows and watch a movie or play a family game. The kids will love it and it will make you feel like a kid again.
Oh I loved making forts as a kid and I even have MORE fun helping my kids make them now! Last night we turned a huge box into a space ship and when we landed on Mars we had to build a fort!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing!
I always used the sofa cushions - they made a great fort. I was way jealous of the kid down the street, too, who had a swing set with a fort that was part of it. It was SO COOL!!!
ReplyDeleteAhhh! The memories of forts...some of my favorites!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the reminder to do something fun with the kids. I will do it tonight!
We had a huge treefort and it was my pride and joy when I was a kid - can't wait to build one for Graham one day...
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea! You clearly had parents who loved you a lot and put the kids first. I did too. My children are older so most would not go for this now. but maybe my youngest..... Thanks for the idea.
ReplyDeleteAnd forgive my technical naivete but is this how the linky thing works? I put in my information if I have also written a family moment Monday post??
I enjoy your blog.
What a fabulous idea! We promised the kids a slumber party in the basement once school was out, so maybe we'll make it a sleep over in a fort! How fun! :0)
ReplyDeleteWe used to make forts all the time with our old couch cushions and lots of blankets. Good times!
ReplyDeleteMy kids make a cave between the end of our bed and the chair using blankets. There isn't enough room for all of us, but maybe I can incorporate the idea for our next indoor picnic the next time it rains.
ReplyDeleteGotta love those homemade forts!
ReplyDeleteMy kids love building forts.
ReplyDeleteWe did this recently and it was such a blast. I think it had been 20 years since the last time I'd made/crawled into a fort - super fun!
ReplyDeleteOK. I posted something and put my address in the link. Seems like that's how it works. This is a fun idea. Still trying to link back to you in my post.
ReplyDeleteMy boys love building forts. I love rainy days when we are all home and they have a ball making them.
ReplyDeleteForts are the best. I may have to try some with PB.
ReplyDeleteI loved doing that as a kid! We haven't done it yet with our girls, I don't know why. We need to now!
ReplyDeleteAndrew loves making forts, playing in them for a little while, and then jumping on top of them and ripping them apart. We always get frustrated when he rips them to shreds, but hey, he is having fun, right?!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to do this with Peanut. I know my kids really like it. And you have everything you need right in your own house. What could be easier.
ReplyDeleteWe do this a lot with the boys. Sometimes it's just setting up the little pop up tent we have, sometimes it's using couch cusions, blankets, tables, chairs, whatever strikes us. The kids love it and we'll leave it up all day.
ReplyDeleteI loved making forts as a kid and my kids love making them now. Great idea to make a whole room into one! That's quite an undertaking but what fun!!
