I am always looking for craft books. They give me so many ideas, plus if I am really not in the mood to fiddle around trying to make a project with no template then I have a craft book that I can turn to for easy step by step guides.... helping me to not use my brain more than needed.
While looking for some fun craft books, that is when I saw it. It was beautiful, like the Holy Grail of craft books. I opened it, wow.... beautiful... so simple. Do I dare turn to another page? I was bound to be disappointed, there is no way there is something better on the next page. I had probably just opened up to the best one, but I did turn the page.... goodness gracious! Another great find! I continue flipping through the pages and found a plethora of ideas. Everything was so cute, simple, and was actually something I would want. Okay, now I am pretty sure that I have all of your attentions, all your mouths are probably watering right now in anticipation....... "Gifts For Baby" - 30 simple crafting projects to welcome the new arrival, by Catherine Woram.
I snatched this book right up and took it home.... I mean... I bought it first, so don't worry :). This book is probably one of the best craft books that I have seen so far. There are so many ideas that have easy instructions and comes with step by step pictures that you can follow. None of the crafts demand odd materials or a huge amount of talent OR time.... which for a lot of us.... we are lacking in both :)
In this one book you can find instructions to make cute baby hats, lamp shades for nurseries, crib decorations, vintage teething rings, soft baby blocks, nursery frames, chairs, adorable laundry bags and much much more. They all have a nice classic almost vintage look to them, but if you are a little more spicy... all of the items can easily be jazzed up. The book lays out simple instruction that can also be used as a good foundation for a more complex project.
And for you out there who are doubting yourself, even right now talking to yourself and saying, "Oh, I'm not that crafty, I wish I could do these cute items!"..... well you can and this is the best book that you could start with. In the back of the book is has tutorials for the stitching you will need, templates for every project, and even ideas as to how you can wrap your craft if you are giving it away. What more could you ask for?
.
Great idea.

I can only wish I was that creative. Even if I bought those books, my outcome would not look like the pictures. Trust me. I'm jealous!
ReplyDeleteIt's not that I'm not that crafty.. I just don't have that much, well or any time actually.
ReplyDeleteI'll expect great things from you!
ReplyDeleteLooks like the craft book has a lot of good ideas, I really like the baby hats. Do you own any Japanese Craft books? I think you might really like the style of them. The only drawback is they're written in Japanese.
ReplyDeleteall such cute ideas! Thanks for stopping by yesterday!
ReplyDeleteSounds like you were doing a paid advertisement lol. But the book sounds absolutely wonderful. I'll definitely write down the title and author for future reference. You're in Alaska right? Maybe I'll just have to check out a lot of stores when there this summer.
ReplyDeleteI'm with Steph. I love to pretend I can get creative, but it all turns into a big blog of goo.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tip. I think I will be going to the bookstore this weekend. Thanks for the movie referral too.
ReplyDeleteOk, I'll keep trying to be crafty... but I do much better at buying them!
ReplyDeleteOk, this book does look fabulous! Now, who's going to have another baby for me to give these to? :)
ReplyDeleteSo, so, so CUTE!
ReplyDeleteI'm of the why make it when you can buy it mindset! I used to be crafty, but that's when I used to have time!
ReplyDeleteI'm sooo not crafty, but these looks so cute!
ReplyDeleteI have a book like that, one I picked up while pregnant with my first child. I don't think I ever made anything from it, but the photos were gorgeous and it inspired me to learn to smock and do more handwork. I think it's out of print now, but here's the link to the cover work.

To be honest, when I saw the word craft, the first thing I thought of was, "Oh yeah, that thing OTHER people like to do."
ReplyDeleteYou my dear are "Queen of All Things Crafty"!
ReplyDeleteI swear I was thinking "oh, I wish I was that crafty." You are so lucky to be. I always look at craft books but I never try them.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by my blog and commenting. :) I appreciate it.
So cute! Looks like fun.
ReplyDeleteAs usual, I admire your craftiness.
ReplyDeleteLook at you Melissa... becoming Ms. Martha Stewart! If I ever come to AK or you come back to visit UT we need to get together so you can teach me some things:).
ReplyDeleteI love looking at books like that but never actually get around to the making.
ReplyDeleteLovely! oh yeah... I love baby Lucy in the previous post! She's so happy with her new quilt! :D
ReplyDeleteOh I need to check that out! I am trying to be more crafty but I fall short and just end up buying stuff most of the time!
ReplyDeleteGreat post! These are my favorite kinds of ideas!
ReplyDeleteThank you! I saw this book in the store today and jotted down the ISBN to look into it online for reviews and price comparison. Your review makes sense given the detail I saw when flipping through the book initially. I was impressed by the explanations especially. Anyway, thanks for your review, I will run back to the store tomorrow to buy the book.
