3/4 cup butter, melted
2 1/4 cups packed brown sugar
3 eggs
2 3/4 cups all purpose flour
2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 TBS vanilla extract
.
Directions
2. In large mixing bowl, combine butter and brown sugar; cool slightly. Beat in eggs, one at a time. In a separate bowl, combine flour, baking powder, and salt; add to sugar mixture and mix well. Stir in chocolate chips.
3. Pour batter into a 9x13 pan. Bake for 25 - 30 mins. When completely cool, cut into squares.
4. These can seem gooey if you don't let them cool AND set. I actually think they taste best the next day or at least a couple hours later. If you over cook them, they will look done, but then they will set hard and crunchy. So, even if they seem a little gooey try and trust them :)I hope they turn out as good as when my mom makes them... because they are gooooood :) These are seriously my #1 favorite baked good.
Those sound VERY yummy!!! I may have to try them. Are they really chocolatey? I don't like tooooo much choc in something like that. They didn't appear to be!
ReplyDeleteI am leaving a comment!! i am counting calories so i dont think they can be a reality in my home, somehow i feel better about eating crap if i at least didnt make it for myself. love th plug for the kitchen aid! a girl's best friend right there.
ReplyDeleteAlthough they do look good and sound yummy, I'm a purist. I tend to like my browies fudge with no nuts or chips. I may have to ask the family what they think.
ReplyDeletemmmmmmmmmm, if I had two more eggs in the house than I currently do, I think I'd be attempting those RIGHT NOW! YUM!
ReplyDeleteThose sound (and look) super nummy! Now, if only I had chocolate chips instead of sweetened baking squares!
ReplyDeleteThese sound yummy, yummy, yummy!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness! I cannot believe you have this recipe! My grandmother made these all the time, and I don't think I have had them since she died...13 years ago! Thank you so much for posting this recipe!

ReplyDeleteOMG!!!! I have never heard of anyone else who knew about these! My great-grandmother used to bake them all the time. I bake them for every party and everyone raves about them. We called them Congo Bars.
ReplyDeleteOHMYGOSH!!! I GREW UP ON THIS RECIPE!! We called them Congo Bars. Anytime I go to visit my mom, she'll ask if I want her to make a pan of Congo Bars. Oh, heaven...HEA-VEN!
ReplyDeleteI finally got around to trying this recipe this week and had a question for you - mine were really gooey and I cooked for the full 30 minutes - can you offer any advice. They did get eaten in a hurry, but we told everyone they were chocolate chip cookie dough bars (hehe).

ReplyDeleteI always have to cook them a little longer then they say... but I thought that was just my oven. If they turn out gooey cook them a little longer.... but I always find they really need to set up... you can't just eat them when they cool down... wait for a couple hours.
ReplyDeleteooh yum! Definately going to try this one!
ReplyDeleteI saved this recipe from a couple years ago when you posted it and I make them allll the time!! Thanks Melissa and Welcome back to the blogging world, we missed you!! ;)
ReplyDeleteHoly moley! Those things make me say 'there's nothing wrong with a big butt :) '
