If you all haven't noticed most of the recipes that I post are really simple and easy recipes. That is what I like, simple and easy. I am really not a fan of having recipes where I look down to see if I have what the meal needs, just to close the book feeling a little bit more stupid because I don't know what crushes shiitake is or shallots are. Plus, when half of the recipes in my book ask for about 10 ingredients each....it is hard to keep your kitchen in stock with all they ask.
So for the sake of premature graying...I like to keep it simple. All I ask in a recipe is that...
1. I don't have to go HUH? when I read the ingredients
2. I don't have to imminently ask a employee where they keep the.... oh I don't know...the....minced sardines (oh that is for real people...I didn't make that one up)

and last but not least...
3. I don't have to buy 40 ingredients for my weekly meal plans. Especially since I will probably not reuse the ingredient till I make that same dish again.
So for all of you people out there that feel the same way or for you people who like to just have a night where you don't have to sweat it out in the kitchen....I hope that these recipes are helping. So here is the latest recipe in my installment of "Easy Quick Fixers"
"Can Make it Any Day Sauce"
This is the worlds easiest pasta sauce...and honestly one of my favorites too. All you need is...
1 can of diced tomatoes
2-3 TBS of olive oil
Dash of oregano, basil, and parsley
Salt & pepper to taste
Most of the ingredients are add for your personal taste.
Just mix this all together on the stove and you have a nice light tasting pasta sauce that we LOVE. It goes great with raviolis. Costco has some amazing frozen raviolis for about 8 bucks in a nice BIG bag. I also like to throw whatever in this pasta....sometimes onion, green onions, diced ham. It is an easy recipe that is fun to just change and add too.

ReplyDeleteOne of my favorite meals is very much like this... but my husband adds honey to make it to give it a sweeter flavor. You should try it sometime!

ReplyDeleteSounds delicious! There are a lot of sauces one can make with common ingredients. Maybe I'll post one of my favorite less-than-10-ingredient recipes in my blog. If everyone did that, I'd only have to grocery shop once per month instead of once per week! :)

ReplyDeleteYou know what else is great about it? The can of diced tomatoes is really low in calories compared to a jar of prepackaged tomato/spaghetti sauce. And tastes a lot fresher, too! :)

I make a wonderful marinara sauce that is similar. It takes only minutes to make, but is incredible. I add tomatoes and whatever veggies I have on hand - carrots, mushrooms, onions. I cook them in olive oil. And I usually put everything in the blender when it's done. I also throw in a bit of sugar. My 2 year old gobbled it up, and she is honestly the pickiest eater ever. She usually only eats cereal for dinner. If she only knew how many veggies I snuck into her...heh heh heh...
