Best Deals At Costco

Costco is great. I don't know about you, but I could wander around and look at what they have for hours. Plus, I can stop by their food mart and eat my weight in their amazing pizza.... um.... hand me another combo slice pleeeease!

But there is also a down side. As good as Costco is, they don't always have the best deals and I found myself being tricked into thinking, "wow.... 24 cases of eye drops.... I MUST HAVE IT!" So, here is my breakdown of 13 always great deals at Costco.

Ground Beef
Beef is something that can really add up on the pocket book, especially if you like to have leaner healthier beef. But over at Costco you can find a 5 pack pound of beef (5 case of 1lb beef) for only $9. It is even 85-90% lean. So basically, you are paying about $1.65 per pound for fairly lean beef... which I don't know about you, but I like that. I especially love how they are packaged in 1 lb containers, so I don't have to defrost 5 pounds of meat when I really only need 1.

Wipes
Oh Costco, you make buying wipes something enjoyable. A giant box of wipes cost around $15 and comes with about 10 cases of wipes.... in the end, giving you about 700-800 wipes. I love having that many cases around, because I can keep one upstairs, in the kitchen, the car, my diaper bag, and any where else I want.

Photos
If you are looking to get some photos printed then Costco should be your place. They have really good price, but they can print anything and everything you could think of. Want a mouse pad with your kids face on it? DONE! A mug with your sexy hubby? EASY! A calender filled with family pictures and memories? THEY GOT IT! They are also really fast. My family was just there this week and we dropped off our photos and went shopping. By the time we were done they and finished and waiting for us. What can I say... I like it cheap and fast :)..... um.... don't read into that :) But here is a link to the pricing and items they have available.
.

Sodas
Whether you want to buy the name brand or the Kirkland brand, you are bound to have a deal on your hands. You can buy 24 cases of sodas for $10-5 dollars, depending on what brand. They can even have some good deals on the fancy glass bottled soda; if your taste buds are searching for something more refine.

Gift Cards
Most Costco carries some nice gift cards for restaurants, spas, or amusement parks in the area. They usually consist of 2 $50 gift cards, so $100 total, but you only pay $80 for them..... receiving $20s free. Not all of them are that much, they also sometimes have movie tickets. Here in Alaska they will sell two movie passes for $14 when you would normally spend about $18. We tried to always stop buy Costco if we are going to hit the movies just to help save us a couple bucks.

Free Samples
Um.... enough said..... Free Samples :) best deal ever

Diapers
When it comes to baby items, Costco diapers are the best deal you will find. You can get them from any price range of $29 - $40. The pricing depends on what size you are getting and what brand. Costco sells both Huggies and Kirkland and depends on where you live, Huggies might even be cheaper than the Kirkland brand. But, I like both and they both do a GREAT job. With our little Lucy... she wears size 2 and it takes her months to go through them. Seriously... if you have a baby and don't have a Costco card.... it is worth the $50 a year membership fee just for baby diapers alone.
.
Cleaning Supplies
Whether you are buying disinfectant wipes or 409 you will probably get a deal. You can purchase a 4 gallon bottle of 409 for a steal. Costco does sell several different brands and types of disinfectant wipes and not all of them are deals. The Kirkland brand has the best savings.... you can usually buy 3-4 bottle of giant wipes for $9. Make sure you really look at the pricing and amount of what you are buying when it comes to the cleaning supplies if you want to make sure you getting a good deal.

Cereal
The cereal isn't the best deal ever because Costco might not carry the kind you like. But it you are a fan of Lucky Charms, Trix, and Coco Puffs then yes... you will like it and you will save your self some money.

Formula
The formula at Costco has really saved us when it comes to baby expenses. You can buy a large 2 pack of formula cans for only $19.99. We know people who have dropped $100 or more a month on formula alone. Curtis and I spend about $40 a month feeding our kid a month, max. The Kirkland formula is just as good as the name brand stuff and I have even bought both and compared the ingredients.... they are the EXACT same.

Pizza
Hands down Costco is the best pizza for its price... heck, for me.... it is the best pizza period. I love love LOVE their combo pizza and could eat it all the time. But besides being sacred... it has an amazing price. You get their huge pizza for only $9.99. I don't know about you, but I can't even remember a time when I could buy a large combo pizza for that much. What I like also is that we can call ahead and order place an order with Costco. The last time we bought pizza the one pizza costs us $18..... so yea... I think we are going with Costco more often.

  1. You're right about how Costco doesn't also give you the best price. It does, however, give you convenience! :) You can just stock up on stuff! :D

The best deals for me are:

    1. spinach
    2. bottled water
    3. tortillas
    4. contact solution
    5. printer paper
    6. trash bags
    7. shredded cheese
    8. many of the dairy products like butter, milk, and halfandhalf
    9. croissants
    10.sugar

    :D

  2. I can totally make a meal out of the free samples. Dessert included. Yeah baby!

    ReplyDelete
  3. Definitely the best pizza! I love the box flash frozen chicken breast, the starbucks coffee beans all a must have! Good one!

  4. Back in North America, I am looking to renew my Costco membership. You are right, though, in that it is so easy to be fooled into thinking that 'everything' is cheap in Costco - and it so isn't. Also, do I really need 10 lb of roasted cashews? I think not.

Having said that, nothing beats Costco if you're planning a big summer party.

  5. We are addicted to Costco too!

We also buy the spinach, milk and eggs - and my son has a prescription every two weeks and the dispensing fees are the lowest in town!

    Thanks for sharing!

  6. There's no Costco here in Dubai but I heard they will open one. I'm excited now! Happy TT

    ReplyDelete
  7. The Huggies are cheaper here. By box Kirkland is less, but you get more per box in the Huggies so you have to look at the cost per diaper.

They also sell great televisions. Just ask my husband.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Where were you on Monday when I was going to Costco? The other things I think are great deals there are frozen berries (the mixed berries are delicious), Fiber one bars ($10 for 30), shredded cheese, and frozen chicken. Those are my staples that I always buy at Costco because they're so expensive everywhere else... ooh and yogurt.

    ReplyDelete
  9. I totally concur. I think a Costco card is essential, especially with a family. In my area, the Huggies and Kirkland brand are always changing which is cheaper. Luckily, they have those little stickers on the shelf that tell you the price per diaper. Other things that are way cheaper are:
    cheese
    tortillas
    bread
    dairy products
    eggs
    olive oil
And, it just happens to be about the only store that my kids willingly go into, thanks to the testers. Plus, those double seats in the carts are a life saver.

  10. Costco is great - I just renewed my membership. Thanks for the rundown on deals!

    ReplyDelete
  11. I could spend some serious time in Costco too. I try to only go once a month though, because no matter what, a person can't help but drop AT LEAST $100 when they go in. :0) I buy my laundry soap there. Amazing prices on that stuff!

    ReplyDelete
  12. Costco laundry detergent, paper towels, T.P, Contact Solution, Diapers, Cheese, Hamburger, fabric softener.... ALL GOOD ITEMS.

    I'm a costco freak.

And have you HAD their rotisserie chicken? Delish!

    ReplyDelete
  13. All those things plus more are the reason we too shop at Costco.

Sometimes we go just to get one of those huge hotdogs (we split them) and the frozen yogurt.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Great list. I made one of these lists awhile back! Gotta love costco!

    ReplyDelete
  15. I miss our Costco :(

They have fabulous deals on baking supplies too- yeast, flour, bread flour, sugar, brown sugar, spices (buy in bulk and split with a friend). I get all my baking supplies there.

    Great topic!

    ReplyDelete
  16. we do most of those also. I think you should add rice to your list. Although you cant buy it at our costco anymore because of the rice shortage. Oh and bottled water and birthday cakes (15 dollars and it can feed 50) we bought a smaller size wedding cake all fancy from some bakery and then bought sheet cakes from costco. saved alot of money.

    ReplyDelete
  17. We don't have Costco. I think Sam's Club is basically the Southern version of Costco, but the closest one of those is 3 hours away - we don't get there often enough to justify the membership. And we don't have the storage space to really stock up when we're there. I used to love the giant containers of olive oil for $15.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I am lucky enough to have a sams and costco within 10 minutes and i love them both. my favorites at costco are the wipes and the cases of single serve organic milk boxes!

    Great T13!

    ReplyDelete
  19. ♡ Sometimes I wish we had a costco!!!

    ReplyDelete
  20. i L.O.V.E. costco! we spend a small fortune there weekly! i'm addicted!

    ReplyDelete
  21. costco the only place I go to for a few items and come out $300 more in debt! But I love it and I swear it's addicting. I HAVE to go there weekly.
I curse the lines and the crowds, but it draws me in each week. I love the chicken pot stickers. yum

    ReplyDelete
  22. Now see, I have issues with the samples, why do they need to have samples on saturdays when there are a gazillion and one people navigating their hummer size carts through the store? Drives me bonkers. I know I shouldn't be there on Saturdays.

Our local costco is outside of the organic mecca of the country, so we have things like organic chicken and beef, eggs, bread, veges and fruit, it's amazing and the prices can't be beat. The organic coffee (my hubby drinks it) is 9.99 for 2 pounds!

but no bananas..for my details you can chuckle at my posts about it...I even had someone from Costco corporate come by my little blog!

    ReplyDelete
  23. my father calls costco the 300 dollar parking lot. hubby can not leave without buying something that makes NO sense. i think the best buy is the wipes !! they work great and the package is great.
thanks for stopping by and yes the Very Own Name books ROCK. honestly, both my girls love and adore theirs, and in the back they can pick out an animal and we talk about it. please feel free to pass the free shipping code out. i just bought 2 and saved myself 20 bucks. both new baby gifts !!!

    ReplyDelete
  24. all i got to say is..

    i puffy heart costco.

    and free samples :)

    ReplyDelete
  25. I made the horrible mistake of going to Costco for the first time when I was pregnant and suffering morning sickness--sadly I can't drive by the store without feeling sick :(
I MUST get over it--the deals are too good :)

    ReplyDelete
  26. I am a regular for their formula and wipes. However, I never broke down and bought their diapers because what if I hated them and I was stuck with a huuuuuuge box for months on end?

I always buy strawberries, romaine, cheese and their kick-butt edamane.

    ReplyDelete
  27. We don't have a Costco - we have a Sam's club and there is quite a bit of deals there as well (including milk, fruit ...)- but the free samples make me come back. :)

    ReplyDelete
  28. Oh how I miss Costco. We live where there is only Sam's which is fine, but Costco really is the BEST!

I loved your list, and completely agree with you.

I LOVED the Costco wipes! :)

    ReplyDelete
  29. Thanks for stopping by my blog, and now I have found yours:).
I am also a costco shopper, thanks for some helpful insight. Looks like you have done your homework. My kids love going there only because of all the samples and the hot dogs.

    ReplyDelete
  30. We have found many good deals at Costco, too. Great idea for a TT!

    ReplyDelete
  31. I love Costco, too! And I love your money-saving tips so much that I linked to you on my "tight-wad tips" post at my blog: http://chicklegirl.blogspot.com/2008/05/tightwad-tuesday-best-bargains.html

    ReplyDelete
  32. My husband and I had a celebration when we were able to pass on the great deal of diapers and formula.

But you can pass me another slice of combo pizza!

    ReplyDelete
  33. I would just be overwhelmed.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Sounds great.
    But, I have no COSTCO!
    ugh!

    ReplyDelete
  35. I love Costco. They are great for high-ticket items, too. We bought our tvs from there, a computer, all sorts of stuff. As for regular stuff, bacon, gluten-free sausages, fruit crisps and oatmeal come from there. Along with many other things. I used to buy "girl stuff" there, but they don't carry my brand anymore. We buy whipped cream, too. And all of our Ziploc bags, paper plates and trash bags, too. Love my Costco.
My T13 is up, as well.

  36. I LOVE Costco!! We just went tonight actually..

To answer your question that you left on my blog.. I do the Carb Addicts diet. They have a website with a quiz.. if you aren't addicted to carbs then it won't work lol It really is the only thing that works for me! And I walk on the treadmill every night for 30 minutes then do stretch bands. I have actually lost 45 lbs since November when I had my baby girl, but this carb diet i just started in April. So since starting that i've lost 20 lbs but a ton of inches. haha sorry to go on. :)

  38. I have a membership but I never go. Unless I am in Utah visiting my family and I go with my Mom. I just have always thought that I don't really need to buy in bulk when there are only 4 of us. I think I need to by myself and check it out! You have convinced me!

    ReplyDelete
  39. What a great post! I am amazed you took all that time to breakdown the good deals! My kids love Costco's pizza too... I love their ice cream bars hand dipped in chocolate and nuts! MMMM!

    ReplyDelete
  40. I LOVE Costco!! I posted about our Costco routine a while back.

You are so right about the diapers and wipes!

My other favorite thing there is this certain frozen fish stick that they sell, at least at ours. It's REAL fish with no fillers and they are great for both the kids and adults.

We always spend quite a bit there but there have only been a few things in several years that weren't worth it. Love Costco! (did I say that already?)

    ReplyDelete
  41. Beautiful post, I'm going to link it from my Costco shoppers' website. Thank you very much. http://www.CostcoShoppers.com

I buy all my vegitables, fruits, milk, egg, office cloths (slacks, shirts), etc, etc...

    ReplyDelete
  42. Great breakdown!!! I puffy heart the Costco diapers and wipes. When I first had my oldest son I wouldn't DREAM of having anything other than Pampers - how insanely pretentious, no? But then a friend loaned me a diaper and I never looked back...

  43. Just wanted to note that in the US, by law, all baby formulas have to include the same nutrients, name brand or generic.

From the FDA website, "All infant formulas marketed in the United States ... must contain at least the minimum levels of all nutrients specified in FDA regulations without going over the maximum levels, when maximum levels are specified."

    ReplyDelete
  44. The Costco baby formula is a great price. However, the diapers are not! They are just not a good price. Shop around with your calculator and you will see.

Target or Parents Choice (WalMart) brands are the cheapest, and work great.
