My Husband's Other Side

I love my husband, he is an amazing man, has a big heart, and truly one of the best people I know. He is always there for me, constantly helping out with our daughter, and never fails to listen and talk with me. We really are made for each other and I couldn't imagine being happier with anyone else, BUT once in a while something happens that makes me raise an eye brow.... like when Curtis helps me pick out an outfit and it actually looks pretty good or helps me fix my hair and sometimes has the greatest cooking tips. What can I say... I feel like I gained a best girlfriend just as much as a great husband!

Over the time we have known each other I have teased Curtis about this and the other day I was joking about doing a Thursday Thirteen about his more... ummm feminine traits. He then proceeded to tell me that there wouldn't be enough. So as a joke we sat down and unfortunately ,for him, we both were able to come up with MORE than 13. So without further notice....

13 Reasons Why I'm Surprised My Husband Isn't Gay

Les Miserables
When we got married and combined our CD's, for some reason we had three, seriously THREE, copies of Les Miserables. I turned to my new honey and asked, "Why do we have three copies of this? Should we get ride of two?" My husband's face looked shocked, "What...no. My two version are different casts and have some different versions. And I don't want to just listen to yours because your version will have another cast that I am not use to....and it won't be as much fun to sing with". So, because of my husband's reasoning, we have three different arrangements of Les Mis.

Pride & Prejudice
The other day we were trying to pick a movie to watch and Curtis suggests "Pride & Prejudice" and I mean the A&E 6 hour version! I get excited and stunned. He sees the look of surprise on my face and says, "What? I wanna see what the big fuss is about this Mr. Darcy." He got so sucked in, we ended up watch the whole 6 hours in two nights. The last night we were up till 1 AM trying to finish it. Now he walks around the house spouting old english sayings, "Capital Capital" "May I have a word?" "I do protess, sir!" He cracks himself up.

Dance Classes
Curtis loves to learn new things and is fascinated by almost everything and I love that about him. But I think I have one of the very few husbands that thought it would be "cool" to learn dancing and I mean ballroom, salsa, tango... you name it, he would want to learn it.

Cheesy Chick Flicks
When it comes to chick flicks I am not realy a fan. I like some, but as a whole I can find most of them irritating. I get upset with Reese Witherspoon in "Sweet Home Alabama", Meg Ryan with "You Got Mail", Eva Mendez in "Hitch". Please don't hate me, but I just don't really like them. But when it comes to the cheesy tongue and cheek ones... those REALLY don't flip my switch. But here we are at Blockbuster trying to rent a movie and we come across "Sydney White" an Amanda Bynes teenie bopper flick and Curtis is asking if we can rent it. I chuckled thinking he was kidding, than after realizing he was being seriouse, we walk out with "Sydney White". But on a side note we both actually kind of liked it :)

Tea Parties
My mom has a really cool tea pot. It is real china and has that typical cute flower pattern that 80 year old grandmas have. Curtis and I both love drinking tea and he got excited when I showed it to him. He gets a grand idea of having a tea party upstairs! We got the tea ready, grabbed some cups, and snuggled upstairs with our nice warm tea pot and cute little cups. And of course since we were drinking tea and Curtis and just discovered his love for Pride & Prejudice, he suggests another Jane Austin movie. So we sipped tea, cuddled, and watch Sense and Sensibility. Not too shabby of an evening, if only the guys at work could have seen him.

Dress Up Doll
When Curtis was younger, apparently all of his sister's dolls weren't to her liking, so Curtis would volunteer! I learned that his sister would get him to play dress-up with her clothes and then go find his dad and say, "We'e the boys! Right dad!". I'm sure it was a proud father-son (daughter?) moment for him.

Shoes Shoes SHOES
Curtis has more shoes that I do! NO JOKE! He has shoes for all occasions and situations. Plus, he cannot get rid of any of them. I can guarantee that any time we move we will be having a "discussion" over his shoes. I try to get him to let go of some, but he likes them all too much and swears that he has his reasons, "Those are my working boots; I've had those since high school; those are my NICE soccer shoes, but I still need my crappy pair too!" I swear he sees his shoes just as much as his soul mate as me.....but get it? Shoes....soul mate! Oh yea! I am on a role :)

Michael's Craft Store
My husband hates to go here or to any other craft store to be more specific, (so there is something to show his manly side) but when I do get him to go with me he knows where everything is. Curtis's mom loves craft stores too, so he was dragged to them a lot when he was younger, which I think is why he is scarred with hatred for them. But he is amazing, I always get lost and have a hard time finding the row that I need, but not Curtis. He is like a blood hound in those stores and can sniff out whatever it is that I need. Unfortunately that power is a blessing and a curse...blessing for me, curse for him.

Cooking Questions
I don't know how, but Curtis has every cooking answer that I could possible want. There has been so many moments of cooking illiteracy in my life and Curtis has fixed practically everyone. I have been in the kitchen cursing at my odd looking cookies, that I wouldn't even give to a dog, and he can just glace at them as say, "Oh, you might not have put in enough flour". Then unfortunately at that moment I may either want to smack him or give him a big kiss of thanks! Depends on my mood. :)
.
.
Manicures & Pedicures
I was looking down at my nails the other night and was saying how much I missed getting my nails done and how nice pedicures and manies were. I even offered to Curtis that if he wanted I would give him one just to prove how good they are. He declined, but then offered that if I really missed them that he would give one to me. I got all gushy and then wondered, "Do you even know what to do with a pedicure?". But he explains to me, "Oh yea, my mom had me do her nails all the time, when I was younger." And wel... yea....I don't think I need to explain that one any more. :)

His Singing Ability
Just open this link in a new window and watch Curtis from this past Christmas. It will explain itself. Trust me you wont regret it!

.
.
Hairspray
We had just gone and seen the movie "Hairspray", which we loved, and Curtis came out of the theater singing and a' bopping away to "I Can Hear The Bells" and other songs. We finally got the soundtrack, and what did he do? He SNAGGED it from me and stashed it in his car so he could listen to it on his way to work. So, I am out on a walk, a few days later, just enjoying the nice weather and I hear this music blasting. I turn around and see a car. Not just A car, but a Kia. Huh.....we have a Kia. Oh....and it is even a silver Kia....that looks a lot like our car. And then I see it.....My husband...the apple of my eye, driving by with the windows down, blasting the song and singing at the top on his lungs, "GOOD MORNING BAAAAAALTIMOOOOORE!".

Even though I am teasing him, Curtis is an amazing man and I am lucky to have his love. And even with this whole post teasing my lovely husband, all he asks is that at some point I post "13 Reasons Why My Husband Is So Manly!" Grrrrr! Don't worry hun. that will be an easy one! But I just have to say that I am lucky to have a wonderful husband that has tea parties, watches Jane Austin movies , singing to musicals, and want to go to the theater. Curtis I love you!

  1. My husband is always teasing our second son by saying, "I need the queer eye of the straight guy!" He too seems to have good fashion sense. He often notices flaws in flower arrangements. He likes to cook! Your husband sounds like a jewel! It is sad that society has made us look at those traits wih such a dubious eye as if there is something wrong with it! We can't let Satan ruin creativity and sensitivity in men and make it ugly! You go girl in proclaiming your hubby's softer side!

  2. Your husband sounds like a wonderful guy! It's wonderful when a man can indulge in his more sensitive side without feeling all dumb about it. My husband is similar to yours although I can't get him to watch "chick flicks" with me. Still it's nice to have a guy you can relate to on a deeper level, right?

  3. You and Scribbit are sisters? I've been reading you both all this time and didn't know you two were related??

  4. only a manly man could sing like that - and show his face...and then let you blog about his feminin side!!!

    FUNNY!

    Thanks for sharing!

  5. I love, love, love this funny little post! What a clever topic. Thanks for the laughs at your husbands expense!
Apparently he is very assured of his manhood....otherwise, there is no way in heck he would allow you to publish this post or that song.

  6. What a fun post. Curtis is a great catch - love the video of him singing. Hilarious! :)

  7. Ooo! That version of Pride and Prejudice is the best EVER! Mr. Darcy (Colin Firth) just melts my heart every time.

    Great list!

  8. When I first met Scott 11 years ago, I thought he and his friend Chris were a couple, and I was SO excited to be in this small town that was so progressive and had gay couples! (In my defense, we were at a read-through for the play we were doing, and they were laughing and giggling and carrying briefcases which look a lot like the man-purse that Joey carried, and they were going bowling afterward. But reading this list, I think Scott and Curtis could have been separated at birth. My son is the fashionista though. Scott and I neither one have a fashionable bone in our bodies. But he cooks, and takes marvelous care of the children, although I'm the one that sings along with my (yes, 3) versions of Les Mis. He plays guitar.

  11. I love it! My husband is definitely a metrosexual man. He loves to go to the craft store with me (same as your hubby- it was something he did with his mom), he takes very good care of his hair and clothes, and he loves to go see musicals. It is fun that our husbands have this side to him. I tease him that he is myf avorite girlfriend :)

    Sooo sweet!

  12. I got a kick out of that, especially the video of him singing!! Your hubby sounds like a doll.

  13. OMG! SO many of my ex-boyfriends are now gay! I'm scared my husband will follow suit . . . be forewarned! Just because you hooked up doesn't mean he's not gay!!!!! AAACCCKKK!!!!

  14. Your husbands singing caused me to have an epiphany. Well, actually it was the blog entry. I had NO IDEA that you were related to Michelle. I always thought it was neat that I visited TWO women's blogs from Alaska AND that they are both awesome bloggers, but I just didn't know. Now it makes sense. You and Michelle are SISTERS, right?

    ReplyDelete
  15. I just listened to the video on Michelle's blog (for some reason I missed it when she posted it). I was VERY impressed that he got that last high note.

  16. I was looking into doing a th.13 and liked your comment and am so happy I came here to take a peek!
I Love love love this post! I always tell my husband he has a 'feminine' side. he shops with me and is great at picking out outfits. He loves the theater too! we have gone for manicures together!
The only place he doesn't show a feminine side is in the bedroom, hence 28 years of a great marriage, where he is my Best (girl?)friend too! haha

  17. Hilarious! Especially the singing. My husband would rather poke his eyes out and chew off his leg than watch Pride and Prejudice. The ony way I got him to watch a Jane Austen movie was when we were dating and then he wanted to make out the whole time.

  21. Wow, I had no idea that you and "Scribbit" are sisters. You two could seriously write your own magazine and becme mega mommy business moguls.

This was an awesome list for an awesome guy! My husband isn't even allowed in the same room with me when I'm watching a chick flick. Have you ever seen Mystery Science Theater 3000? Well, that is what he does to EVERY movie. I love it and do it with him, but some movies (like Lorenzo's Oil) are not meant to be mocked.

  22. It takes a real man to admit to doing his mother's nails...and men who love their mothers make the best husbands, always.

  25. A manly man is great, but a manly man who is in touch with his feminine side is the best!

Curtis sounds like a real keeper!

  26. Great post! He sounds super! :)

  27. My husband is just like this. He loves musicals, cooking, dancing, decorating, etc. but then also loves football/soccer, weight lifting and all of the manly stuff as well. I think it's really the best of both worlds!

  28. Your husband is a great sport for letting you post all of this information!

    Nobody tells me anything!

  39. But, does he go to the store and buy you tampons? Because if he does, seriously, I'm gonna have to ask that you clone him, box up the clone, and send him my way.

    ReplyDelete
  40. that was a good one. He sounds like a great guy and you sound like a great couple : )

  41. Great post! My husband would NEVER go to dance lessons, however, does like to cook and has more shoes than I do!

    ReplyDelete
  42. Hilarious!!

My husband too loves musicals, adores his shoes (and has a million of them), loves to sing and dance... I could go on and on!

  43. That really was a good post and I have a husband with some of those traits. It's so nice, huh?

    ReplyDelete
  44. My husband loves musicals and singing, he didn't like Hairspray, really, but he love Wicked, Les Mis... He has a few chick flicks that he likes. He tries to pretend he doesn't know where Micheals and JoAnns is, but he really does. And he has painted my toenails for me-when I was 9 months pregnant-what a sweetie!

    Fun post!!

    ReplyDelete
  45. Oh, this is adorable! He's so well-rounded. Not the "get me a beer, woman" kind of guy.

Maybe he should start a blog to help other hubbies become softer, more sensitive, theater-going, classy dancing, shoe-loving, good cookin', toenail painting, opera singin',outfit picking, loving, sweeter kinda guys . . .

    Luv it!

  46. Our husbands should meet-I have a girly man too. Today he asked all the ladies in his office if he should get a Mini for a new car? Is it too gay he asked? What a goon!

  48. OMG I can't even give a comment worthy enough to explain how hilarious the Silent Night was. I am sure Austin is wondering what the heck I am laughing at all by myself in this room.

  49. Okay. I seriously cannot BELIEVE that your husband likes P & P and actually picked it out himself. I'm in total shock and I'm dying over it.

  50. I can totally see Curtis doing all of this stuff! Chris and I both like reading it and the video of him was great.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Well, I would be another who did not realize that you were related to Michelle.

I feel a little bit stupid, and maybe misused. This should've been clarified at some point to prevent us from saying stupid things, which I know for a fact I have, at least.

(ie, asking you if you'd heard of Scribbit.)
