Chop Wizard

I need all the help in the kitchen that I can get. I am not completely cooking challenged, but I mainly get frazzled. Let me paint a nice picture for you of what it's like for me to cook. First I am usually running late, so I am in a hurried PANIC mode. Then there is my lovely little Lucy who is amazingly independent until I start cooking, then it is like....well....have you seen "Raiders of the Lost Ark"? Well, remember when the Nazis open the ark and the ghosts come out and suck the souls from everyone...... just picture that, but with my sweet little one in her saucer screaming at me because apparently I didn't get the memo about her only being clingy and whinny from 5-6:30 P.M. Then there is the realization that I forgot to buy a certain ingredient or with all the screaming I can't remember if I put in two cups or one cup in.
.
.
So, as you can see, cooking time can be a stressful time. One thing that has really helped me hugely is my Chop Wizard. It is great! You simply place your potatoes, green peppers, hard boiled eggs, onions...whatever you need.... press down on the lid and then prest-o chang-o, you have your self some nicely diced and chopped veggies. I especially love this contraption when I am making a stew or soup since many of them need lots of dicing. Great for salads too if you like to throw in diced ham and chopped onions. Even wonderful for tacos and all the toppings needed and fruits for tasty fruit salads!
.

It costs about $19.99 and even comes with two slicing options; dicing (a bigger square, good for potatoes, tomatoes and such) and mincing (perfect for onions and peppers). The Wizard also has a small cleaning tool to help you get the bits and pieces of food, that have been left behind, out of the blades. The compartment that catches all the food even has a measuring system of 1/4 cup, 1/2 cup and more, to help you know how much you have sliced.

The Chop Wizard is really just a great helper in the kitchen. Especially for the price... I think it has been worth every penny. I mainly love how it really saves time in the kitchen for me, which is something I need when Lucy is about to cry out "ANARCHY" :)

  1. My impression of you is of someone who has it TOGETHER when it comes to cooking and the like. That's why you know all the cool toys.

Like this one. Another one to add to my wish list :)

  2. Hahha...I can totally relate. Even though my daughter is almost 4 there are times dinner is still late because all of my attention is off of her and on something else, so she gets clingy. Every two minutes wanting something or needing something.

  3. I always wondered if that thing actually worked. It seemed like it wouldn't be sharp enough or I'd have to push way too hard on it to get it to slice. Glad to know it works!

  4. With that thing I might actually finish making a recipe within the estimated cooking time!

  5. Why do I not own one of those? I am always chopping and dicing. This would cut down on the amount of prep time for meals. Once again...thanks for sharing!!!

  6. So can you wash it in the dishwasher? That would be the only thing holding me back from getting it. Layla likes to do the same thing to me which is why she always gets an appetizer when I'm fixing supper. I just stick her in her highchair and give her a cracker or something and let her watch me cook.

  7. I love your tool! My two year old hates for me to do dishes. Every time I try to do them he wants me to hold him and stands there whining and saying, "up!up!" It is so hard to get anything done with little ones.

  8. I have always wondered about that device--do the blades stay sharp?
I just love cooking toys :)

  10. I got one of these last year and I really like mine too. My only complaint is that it can be hard to clean - those little onion skins like to stay in there. It's worth it though, for how quickly you can dice them.

  11. This looks great. I've got a generic version of the Pampered Chef super cutter/chopper thing that I bought for $4.99 on clearance at BB&B and absolutely love it. It makes cooking a lot easier.

  12. SOLD! I'm going to buy one right now! I totally understand the screaming come dinner making time. That's why the crockpot is my friend... the Chop Wizard will be my new friend too! Thanks!

  13. Chop wizard sounds helpful. I swear you were writing about me when you mentioned children becoming helpless in the evening, forgetting to buy an ingredient and losing track of how many cups you poured in the recipe. lol

Baseball practice and games interfere with our dinner three nights (at least) a week, so I've been trying to crock pot it or do frozen dinners. Sad, I know!

  14. I saw this in a catalog about 3 years ago and have been wanting to get it, but I can't find it in the store and I'm not quite ready to part with the $19.99 plus shipping yet. I do almost none of the cooking, and hubby doesn't mind the chopping, so it seems like an extravagance.

  15. I love a new gadget, especially one that can do the chopping. Now if there was only one that could do all the other dirty work : )I'll have to check it out.

  17. Oh yes the dinnertime meltdown...it doesn't end when they can entertain themselves either!!

I am so glad that you reviewed this...as much as I love dicing and chopping (yes, I am a kitchen nerd), I always forget how much I have put in and what has been done. This would be a HUGE help.

And when Toddler gets bigger he could help me out with it...without worries of him flinging the knife across the room at someone!!.

And yes I do the same thing. Bean will be calling me and I'll be like did I add such and such?

  28. It must be really hard work with a little one trying to cook and sharing your attention into two directions. I always feel really guilty if I have to disturb my carer while she is making supper! The gadget sounds great, I have never seen one of those before.

  29. Glad to know it works well - and is dishwasher safe; I can definitely use something like this. Thanks!

  30. I've always wanted one of these but just assumed it didn't work...that's what I think of all of the As Seen on TV products!

    Thanks for the info!

  31. Have you tried using a back pack for the "witching hour"? That's what we call dinner-prep time in my house!

Our backpack or sling works like a charm for my darling 15 month old..and I have to thank PBS for keeping her big sis occupied. Or I just put her to work, she's a great kitchen helper.

    Cool gadget..I love gadgets!

  32. I've never used one of those! I may have to try one out!

  33. I think I need one of these! Thanks for your insightful review!

  34. Alright....I have been debating on this contraption....you convienced me to go get it.

You had me rolling with your "Raiders of the lost arc!" ghost scene. I loved that show and loved that you used that to explain your cute little baby!!!

  35. I bought one of these for my mom!!! I want one for myself! :D

  36. I wouldnt say im challenged...I cook because I have to, not because I want to. Anything that can help make my life easier is WAY cool in my books:)

  37. I see you as the person who totally has everything under control! How else could you be so creative!

Love this idea (as usual) and think this product might need to come live at our house as well. Oh, how my hubby is not going to love how I "need" to have all of the nifty things I am seeing on your blog daily!!

    ReplyDelete
  38. so I had to find my way here, drawn like a mosquito to a light, because of the blog name. Ha ha. Thought maybe you would have some tips for ME!! I guess we all need it. Maybe when all is said and done you can write a "complete idiots guide to motherhood" or "being a mother for dummies" book. Thanks for making me laugh. Take care.

  39. I've seen commercials for this gadget but wondered if it was really worth the money. Thanks for the review. I'm putting this on my birthday wish list. Who wants to spend the time chopping when you can use this?

  40. Hmmm. I Think I might have something like this in my pantry - I'll have to go blow the dust off of it and see if it's the same. Maybe I might just open it and try it! :)
