Woodburning Halloween Decorations

These fun Halloween, Thanksgiving, Autumn wood pieces are great for all kinds of decor. They can be coasters, magnets, window hangings, or even useful to make a fun holiday game. All you need is...

Wooden Shapes (Michael's has all kinds), $.25 each
Woodburner, $10.00 at Wal-Mart or Permanent Marker
Magnets or clothes hangers clips, around $2-$3 a package

First you will need to find the images you want or you need to type up a phrase you would like. Copy & Paste the images into Microsoft Word and make sure the images/phrase/text is going to fit onto the wooden shapes. When they look the right size print them off.

Trace the images with a pencil and get every single detail, nice and filled in. If you are doing a phrase then take a pencil and color the complete area behind the text (on the back of the paper). Now you can transfer the images/text to the wood.

If it is an image just put the image face down on the wood and find something hard to rub the paper with, the pressure will transfer the lead from the picture you traced, to the wood. If you have a phrase then put the paper face up and trace the letters one by one and the lead from behind with be transferred to the wood. Now with your images/text on the wood you can go ahead and use your woodburner to burn the image actually into the wood, if you don't have a wood burner then just use a permanent marker.

You can glue magnets (which you can get from Michael's) on the back and have some cute holiday magnets in the kitchen, varnish them and have some festive coasters for the living room, or use them in a fun bean bag toss game where every image is worth a different point or make two of every image have a custom made matching/memory game for the kids. If you have some twine you can glue the phrase/images to a string and have a door greeting or a window hanging.

You can even color them in with oil colored pencils or paint... and if you want to make sure nothing smudges you can easily spray them with a sealant to keep them in mint condition for years to come.
