Christmas Traditions

FAMILY MOMENT MONDAY

When I think about Christmas one of the main things I think of is tradition. We have so many wonderful Christmas traditions that I look forward to every year. One of my favorite's is the Christmas nut. On Christmas morning my mom always made a great breakfast and somewhere in the main dish was a nut and who ever found the nut was declared the winner and got a special present.

So, for this F.M.M. I am wanting to hear about YOUR family traditions. Please leave a comment or e-mail me at motherhoodfordummies@hotmail.com with your fun family traditions. I am going to read through them all and I'll post my top 10 favorite, with a link, and a clip about your blog for the next Family Moment Monday.

Please remember to add your link only if you are participating in Family Moment Monday. Family Moment Monday consists of people who are sharing crafts, activities, lessons, ideas, service projects or anything else that you can learn/do/enjoy as a family in your post. Please remember to link back to Motherhood For Dummies, so others can learn about F.M.M. and participate too.

  2. We started this tradition when we got married. We have a "Birthday party" for Jesus christmas night. Our son loves it and it helps us remember the true meaning of christmas. We make a little cake and all say what we are thankful for about Jesus and what we love most about him and then together blow out the candle on the cake. Its a nice break from all the commercialized christmas stuff and helps us remember our savior. We also do the twelve days of christmas leading up the christmas with a piece of the navtivity in each gift with a scripture. we pick a family who we think needs it the most and then delivery baby jesus on christmas day and let them know who we are.

  4. That sounds like the King Cake at Mardi Gras where a little baby doll is baked into the cake. :)

  5. I just did our post about two Christmas traditions we love!

The first was The Forgotten Carols by Michael McLean and the second is the lights and other events at Temple Square in Salt Lake City!

I love this time of year!

  7. Since starting my own family I have been putting a lot of thought into what traditions from growing up I want to keep, and what traditions I want to start for the holiday season. Ones I have kept: starting the Christmas season the day after Thanksgiving by putting up the tree and decorating the house, making and consuming my mom's top secret cranberry punch recipe, and watching "It's a Wonderful Life." Traditions I have started: celebrating the 12 days of Christmas the British way by "feasting and partying" the 12 days after Christmas, ending on Jan. 6 by celebrating the visit of the wise men to the baby Jesus and eating Tortell-- similar to King Cake. On the 6th the decorations come down and the season ends for another year.

  9. Our tradition is to try a new tradition. We rarely get more than two years out of a tradition before the kids say, "We did that last year, we don't want to do it anymore." Keeps things interesting.

  10. Like Randy and Ally we have a bread very similar to King Cake on Christmas morning. Ok, in fact it is also my King Cake recipe. That's our traditional breakfast. And like the Jenkins' we also do a Birthday party for Jesus and sing Happy Birthday.

I posted the recipe for our "Christmas Bread" last year, but I will do it again later this week.

We are also starting a new one I found in family fun magazine. Everyone saves up their wrapping paper from the presents and then there is a "war" at the end using the wadded up paper. Sounds like fun to me!

    P.S.-Check out my first/latest give-away!
