Horatio Hornblower

WFMW
I like movies and there are even a bit out there that I can watch over and over again. But there are only a few flicks that can make me get just as excited as the first time I saw them; and if you have seen the Horatio Hornblower movies, then you understand.

A&E several years ago filmed a made-for-tv series of the novels written by C.S. Forester, and well, they are just amazing. Besides being filled with adventure, honor, and passion.... Horatio is simply... well, yummy! :) There is nothing like sitting down after a long day, curling up with some popcorn and watching hours of a dreamy lookin' guy fighting for honor and bravery. He is the best of what good men should be and everything you like to see in a human.

These movies tell the adventures and life of Horatio Hornblower, who is a sweet humble guy that is out to work hard and always ready to prove himself. The story takes place the early 1800's right around Napoleon's time. The British and french are constantly fighting and they are either trying to stop Napoleon or help end the french revolution.

We have introduce these movies to several families and we have all loved them. Not many people have seen these, but there is a strong following. A&E has been selling the complete box set for a little while now. I have seen them on Amazon for around $37 and the A&E website for $39. But if these are a little too pricey for you, you can rent them from Netflicks, they have all 8 of the discs.

So if you are ready for a good fella that loves sailing the high seas and can make McDreamy look dreary... then check out Horatio Hornblower, you wont be disappointed.
.
And p.s. .... the hubby will love it too... well, hopefully not for the same reason we women do :)

  1. We love Horatio around here too. We have introduced him to a number of friends and they too have all enjoyed these movies. Great movies for the ladies as well as the men.

I was so sad when I heard they weren't making any more. Especially leaving us with the ending that they did. Make us believe there would more and then leave us high and dry. Oh well.... it just made me read the books and they are wonderful too. I would never have learned so much about frigates and sailing with the British Navy if I hadn't read this series or watched these films.

  5. My dad's obsessed with HH.
We bought this series for him a few years ago from A&E, but I have to admit it never occurred to me to watch them myself. =)

  6. What age kids do you think they'd be good for? I'd love a good series like this but it would need to be good for the kiddos too. . .

  8. Cool - grownup movies! We rented the 5th Harry Potter last week. I'm wondering if they even have this one, but we'll definitely check. We're trying to find time (and babysitting) to go see Indiana Jones.

  16. These are really good. There are some colorful words in them but if you have a cuss box , then you are good to go. Our public library carries some of these and we have watched them over and over and over.

  25. also, your husband, Venezuela? please pump for information - we know next to NOTHING about it - not a lot out there either in the way of helpful travel tips - apparently it is not exactly a popular tourist destination these days...go figure?

  26. I have never seen Horatio, maybe it is something that I should be looking into. My fav thing to watch again and again is House, it always makes me laugh even though I know the storyline backwards! We have season 4 on TV at the moment which is very exciting for me - how sad!!!

  32. I actually found the books before the movies, but now love them both. I was never quite able to decide however which book liked best. UnSpun by Amazon just launched a list for people to vote on asking exactly that question though. I hope that whatever answer is arrived at there helps me make a decision.
